The Challenge: Will Gemmel, Andrew Joad and Dean Taylor plan to ride from John o Groats to Lands End, starting 14th July 2026 in just 6 days. The distance is approximately 950 miles or 158 miles per day.

The longest I've cycled is 110 miles in a day and it took all day with stops and I was knackered at the end. So this is going to be a very demanding challenge but we are all motivated by such a worthy cause.

The Cause:

To raise money for Scinergise, a charity started by my nephew Oliver, after a tragic accident in October 2016 left him paralysed from the waist down.

The Charity:

Scinergise aims to provide financial support to young people who have suffered spinal chord injuries so that they can improve their quality of life post-injury by purchasing products, services and/or experiences outside the remit of care provided by the statutory authorities. Every penny raised will go directly towards providing this extra care.

Shockingly the statistics show that in the UK every two hours there is somebody paralysed through a spinal chord injury.

Hence the numbers are growing day by day equating to 4,400 per year and a current total figure of 105,000 people living with a spinal chord injury. Approximately 9% of these will be children under the age of 17, that's around 400 per year.

It is no surprise therefore that charities are playing a huge role in supporting the NHS to provide the much needed ongoing care.

Every donation is accepted with thanks and gratitude.
